Aphrodisiac peptide preparation for women and for men

“Honey, I’m not in the mood today!” – this sentence, uttered primarily by women (rarely by men), is a real relationship killer. At least, that’s the case when it’s uttered too frequently. That’s why the pharmaceutical industry has been striving for decades to develop aphrodisiac medications specifically for women. Until the early 2000s, the success of these efforts was modest. The synthesis of the peptide bremelanotide (development code PT-141) then proved to be the breakthrough: This drug has been shown to increase sexual desire in women [1] and improve erectile function in men [2].

Bremelanotide was originally developed by the US company Palatin Technologies as a tanning agent [3]. However, it quickly became apparent that it not only promotes skin pigmentation but also stimulates the pleasure center in the brain. Therefore, in 2019, the peptide was approved in the USA as a drug for the treatment of sexual dysfunction under the name "Vyleesi".

EFFECT VIA THE CNS

Unlike other libido enhancers and erection aids, PT-141 doesn't simply improve blood flow to the genitals. Instead, it acts via the central nervous system: As an agonist of the melanocortin receptor, it triggers the release of certain neurons in the hypothalamus that regulate sexual activity. This has the advantage that using the peptide also increases the likelihood of orgasm.

PT-141 SPECTRUM OF ACTION

PT-141 has the following effects:

In women

• Increased sexual desire (libido)
• Reducing stress related to sex
• Promoting orgasmic ability

In men

• Improvement of erectile function (= "harder" erection)
• Prolongation of erection duration
• Treatment of erectile dysfunction – even in cases where medications such as Cialis® and Viagra® do not provide relief [5]

ADVANTAGES OF PT-141 AS A DROP SOLUTION

Initially, bremelanotide was sold exclusively as a nasal spray. Today, it is also available as an injectable solution in the USA. Our PT-141, however, is a solution for oral drops, supplied in a bottle with a dropper. In this form, the medication can be dosed much more precisely than in spray form.

Application and dosage

If the product is intended to enhance libido, the distributor of Vyleesi recommends a dosage of slightly more than 1.25 mg (administered 45 minutes before anticipated sexual activity). To improve erectile function in men, a dose of just 1 mg is sufficient. With a drop solution containing 90 micrograms of active ingredient per drop, this would correspond to 12 drops. Since Vyleesi, or rather its active ingredient PT-141, is not approved for human use within the EU, we do not provide a dosage recommendation for our product.
