Lionsmane: the "brain booster" edible mushroom in powder form
Lion's mane mushroom extract in a 10:1 ratio as micronized powder
Fungi are, after humans, the most fascinating living organisms on this planet. They are neither plants nor animals, but like bacteria, form their own category of life forms. Some fungi are microscopic, while others comprise networks several kilometers long. And some fungi have astonishing effects on the human brain and body. One of the best-known in this group is the lion's mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) – so named because it actually looks quite "shaggy." Alternative names include "lion's mane," "monkey head mushroom," and (Japanese) "yamabushitake." Depending on the source, it is considered a mood enhancer, concentration booster, memory supporter, stress response regulator, and energy booster.
Popular in Asia
Lion's mane mushroom holds a special place in Asia. Most human studies on the mushroom's effects on well-being and cognitive performance also originate from Asia. For example, a groundbreaking Japanese study from 2008 concluded that lion's mane mushroom has a positive effect on people with mild dementia [1]. Furthermore, a more recent Chinese study from 2019 demonstrated that the mushroom promotes the expression of neurotrophic factors [2] – this could be particularly relevant for the treatment of depression. There is also evidence that lion's mane mushroom consumption has a positive effect on blood sugar stabilization [3].
Popular with athletes and brainiacs.
Lion's mane mushroom has long since found its way to Europe as a dietary supplement. Lion's mane mushroom supplements are popular with...
- Athletes who want to be fully focused during training,
- Students who want to improve their concentration skills while studying,
- Fans of the gaming scene,
- “Desk workers” – that is, people who primarily perform mental work in their jobs –
- People who often suffer from melancholy and who want to prevent depressive moods, and
- People who are past middle age and want to protect their brains as much as possible from age-related degeneration.
Application and dosage
If the mushroom is consumed as a true edible mushroom, the daily dose should be a maximum of 10 grams. Our Lionsmane powder, however, is an extract with a ratio of 10:1 – meaning that 1 gram of Lionsmane extract powder is equivalent to 10 grams of dried Lionsmane mushroom fruiting body. Therefore, a daily intake of 1 gram of powder (or less) is sufficient.
